If you are interested but layman to Human Anatomy, if you find the Human Anatomy textbooks are too difficult to read, or if you want to freshen up quickly your anatomy knowledge, this is the course for you.
Human Anatomy is fundamental to every medical and healthcare professional. However, the science of anatomy and effects of stroke are also extremely useful to anyone interested in understanding more about the human body. In this course, you’ll gain an understanding of the basic concepts of anatomy and learn to ‘dissect’ the human body with a logical approach through a typical clinical case of stroke.
Case-based study:
A real-life severe stroke case is adopted in this MOOC to articulate the application of Human Anatomy knowledge. This case scenario is presented by using a micro movie together with an interactive case summary and interview to arouse learners’ interest.
Module-based design:
In addition to the presentation of a stroke case scenario in Module ONE, two more modules are included. In Module TWO, general knowledge of human anatomy related to the stroke case, including organs of important body systems, anatomical orientation, skeletal and muscular system, nervous system and special senses, and cardiovascular and pulmonary system. And Module THREE is specific for healthcare professionals or learners who want to know more about the health services being provided to stroke patients. It rounds up the course with six healthcare-discipline specific role play videos and lectures given by visiting professors.

This is the third of five modules to introduce concepts and current frontiers of atomic physics and to prepare you for cutting-edge research:
8.421.2x: Atomic structure and atoms in external field
8.421.3x: Atom-Light Interactions 1 -- Matrix elements and quantized field
8.421.4x: Atom-Light interactions 2 -- Line broadening and two-photon transitions
The third module, 8.421.3x, covers how atoms interact with light. First, dipole and higher order couplings are introduced, and concrete examples for selection rules and matrix elements are given. After quantizing the electromagnetic field and introducing photons, the Jaynes-Cummings model and vacuum Rabi oscillations are presented. Coherent and incoherent time evolution are discussed, also in the framework of Einstein's A and B coefficients.
At MIT, the content of the five modules makes the first of a two-semester sequence (8.421 and 8.422) for graduate students interested in Atomic, Molecular, and Optical Physics. This sequence is required for Ph.D. students doing research in this field.
In these modules you will learn about the interaction of radiation with atoms: resonance; absorption, stimulated and spontaneous emission; methods of resonance, dressed atom formalism, masers and lasers, cavity quantum electrodynamics; structure of simple atoms, behavior in very strong fields; fundamental tests: time reversal, parity violations, Bell's inequalities; and experimental methods.
Completing the two-course sequence allows you to pursue advanced study and research in cold atoms, as well as specialized topics in condensed matter physics.

Who can register for this course?
Unfortunately, learners from Iran, Cuba, Sudan and the Crimea region of Ukraine will not be able to register for this course at the present time. While edX has received a license from the U.S. Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) to offer courses to learners from Iran and Sudan our license does not cover this course.
Separately, EdX has applied for a license to offer courses to learners in the Crimea region of Ukraine, but we are awaiting a determination from OFAC on that application. We are deeply sorry the U.S. government has determined that we have to block these learners, and we are working diligently to rectify this situation as soon as possible.

Over thirty years ago, confident in the superiority of American military power, the United States set out to "fix" the Greater Middle East. Since that time, U.S. troops, covert operatives and proxies have engaged in costly exertions in predominantly Muslim societies everywhere from the Levant and the Persian Gulf to East Africa and Central Asia. With what result? Washington's efforts have exacted a terrible toll, squandering vast amounts of blood and treasure. In the meantime, the Islamic world has become less stable while anti-American radicalism flourishes. America’s War for the Greater Middle East has failed, and that failure is irreversible.
This course offers a history of that war, for better understanding of the factors that inspired the United States to launch the conflict and to persist in a doomed enterprise. Inviting you to learn how the war unfolded from one phase to the next, from the era of Jimmy Carter to the age of Barack Obama, it catalogs the errors of judgment and implementation made along the way. Finally, it encourages you to consider alternative approaches to policy that might have better served the interests of the United States and of the people living in countries invaded, occupied, bombed and otherwise subjected to American punishment.
Musculoskeletal AnatomyX invites students to join basic science and clinical faculty at Harvard Medical School (HMS) to learn about several musculoskeletal injuries commonly seen in clinical practice.
For each case, students visit the HMS Clinical Skills Center to observe the initial patient encounter and physical examination by an orthopedic surgeon. Following the patient encounter, students complete the interactive gross anatomy, histology and radiology learning sessions essential for understanding the case. The anatomy learning sessions include observing actual dissections in the Harvard Medical School anatomy laboratories revealing and explaining the human anatomy relevant for each clinical case.
After completing the case learning sessions, students review pertinent radiology images, commit to a tentative diagnosis from a list of differential diagnoses, and accompany the patient to a virtual operating room to observe the surgical treatment. In the virtual operating room, students observe narrated videos of actual surgical procedures.
Clinical content for each case is developed in close collaboration with leading orthopedic surgeons and radiologists at Brigham and Women’s Hospital.
This course will contain videos, photographs, and other content, including anatomical images and videos showing cadaver dissection, that some people may find offensive, disturbing or inappropriate.
