This design-based subject provides a first course in energy and thermo-sciences with applications to sustainable energy-efficient architecture and building technology. No previous experience with subject matter is assumed. After taking this subject, students will understand introductory thermodynamics and heat transfer, know the leading order factors in building energy use, and have creatively employed their understanding of energy fundamentals and knowledge of building energy use in innovative building design projects. This year, the focus will be on design projects that will complement the new NSTAR/MIT campus efficiency program.

This course is a general introduction to the history, cultural traditions, and current condition of many of the 38 Native American tribes who reside in Oklahoma. To increase awareness and appreciation of the manners in which the Native American population of Oklahoma contributes to the unique character and capacities of our state, through cultural values, political relationships between sovereign governments, social relations in a diverse place, and enriching artistic expressions. Learners will further understand the roles that indigenous people in Oklahoma have played in national and global contexts.

This course provides fundamental concepts in probability and statistical inference, with application to engineering contexts. Probability topics include counting methods, discrete and continuous random variables, and their associated distributions. Statistical inference topics include sampling distributions, point estimation, confidence intervals and hypothesis testing for single- and two-sample experiments, nonparametric statistics, and goodness-of-fit testing. Excel will be used to demonstrate how to solve some class examples, and you'll be expected to use Excel to solve some homework problems. The statistical software package R will be introduced to address very basic statistics problems. Course prerequisites include calculus (differentiation and integration).
