Learn an ethically based, whole-systems design approach to create sustainable human settlements and institutions. Although rooted in horticulture and agriculture, we’ll also touch on regional planning, ecology, architecture, and international development.
This course provides an introduction to the environmental aspects of sustainability, including renewable energy techniques, the impact of nonrenewable sources, air quality, storm water management, land use, and the built environment. Topics include climate change and greenhouse gases; wind, solar, water, and geothermal energy; bio-fuels; conservation techniques; global demand; legal and regulatory aspects; and job creation. After completing this course, students will be able converse knowledgeably about the broader context of sustainability and environmental impacts, social consequences and financial opportunities.
In this six-week course, you will learn the basics about our energy and climate obligations. You will also prepare yourself to continue learning as these issues evolve. You will evaluate demand-side (e.g. more efficient buildings and automobiles) and supply-side (e.g. solar and wind) strategies for more sustainable use of energy. The course will require fact-based analysis of our energy obligations and possible ways to meet them. Please also consider enrolling in Sustainable Energy Innovation which begins June 2.

Students will learn about common cyber attacks and the techniques for identifying, detecting, and defending against cybersecurity threats. They will also gain a basic understanding of personal, physical, network, web, and wireless security, as well as a foundation for more advanced study of cybersecurity.
The Cloud Institute’s Education for Sustainability (EfS) online course is designed to increase participants’ awareness, knowledge, and understanding of the core concepts, content, and habits of mind that characterize Sustainability and Education for Sustainability (EfS). Elements of Pain is a five-week self-directed course in pain medicine intended for medical professionals (general practitioners and family doctors) or anyone in the healthcare profession managing people in pain and looking to increase their knowledge and abilities in managing these patients. This course will provide an introduction and approach to the assessment of someone presenting with pain. To reduce pain and suffering, we must have an understanding and knowledge of pain and its processes. Our approach must be systematic and focused on the assessment of the person in pain, including taking a full and relevant history, which should be followed by a patient-orientated physical examination.
