Like no other event in recent history, the 2014 Ebola outbreak has made clear the fragility of existing health systems. While responding to the current epidemic is critical, we also have an opportunity to learn lessons to prevent the next global health catastrophe, forge partnerships across borders and disciplines, and demonstrate our commitment to value all human lives.

This four-week course provides the context in which to understand the Ebola outbreak -- why now, and why did so many people suffer and die? The course lays out the global governance structure -- what was the global response supposed to look like, and where did it fail? 

The course will feature practitioners, experts, and scholars who will focus on cultivating a better understanding of the Ebola epidemic and implications for future health systems to ensure that the world is more effective in preventing the next pandemic.

This course will allow you to better understand the world around you through utilising the anthropological lens. You will learn about the way in which anthropology as a discipline can shed new perspectives on current world issues, from indigeneity to migration and material culture.

We want to challenge you to reflect on your own perspective when thinking about these issues, how you see the world and how we all engage with difference and sameness on a daily basis.

We will interview notable anthropologists and follow some around the world and into their field to explore the issues, the people they work with and their place in the world.

How do computers work? What do computer scientists do?  What does it take to make a computer or a computer program work? We answer these questions and more with MyCS: Computer Science for Beginners.
 
We believe that anyone can succeed in and enjoy computer science. This course is an early introduction to CS, designed for anyone who's completely new to the field. It explores a combination of the basic principles of how computers work and how we can use them to solve interesting problems and create amazing things. Lessons alternate between general exercises and assignments in Scratch, which offer a chance to both practice some basic concepts of computer programming and explore the many cool, creative, and useful applications of CS.
 
You don't need any CS or programming background to do this course - just a bit of basic math and a lot of creative thinking. The course is intended especially for middle school students and their teachers, but is good for learners of all ages.

You will see what this disciplined way of working with colleagues can look and feel like in a school setting. You will also have the opportunity to share insights and experiences about school improvement with educators from around the world.
 
In this course, you will:

• Understand what the Data Wise Improvement Process is and how it can help you improve teaching and learning.
• Build skills in looking at a wide range of data sources, including test scores, student work, and teaching practice.
• Identify next steps in supporting a culture of collaborative data inquiry in your setting.

Introduction to Data Wise is open to all, but is especially valuable for teachers and school and district leaders, as well as policymakers, and educational entrepreneurs who are dedicated to improving outcomes for students. There are several ways you could take this course:

• Participate on your own.
• Enroll with a few colleagues as part of a study group.
• Formally integrate it into professional development in your workplace.

This economics and finance course surveys developments in the area of prudential risk regulation with particular emphasis on stress testing as the primary tool of regulation. This course will explain the motivations for changes to the BIS capital accords from Basel I to Basel III.

Computers are an important tool for problem solving and are deeply involved in modern life. Computers perform operations on data. What is the logical relationship among data? How is data stored in computers? What algorithms are required to solve particular problems? These are the questions that will be answered in “Data Structures and Algorithms,” an important core course in Computer Science. The course also introduces students to fundamental data structures and classical algorithms used in more specialized courses, including Operating Systems, Software Engineering, Database Systems, Compiler Principles, Computer Graphics and Human Computer Interaction.

Niklaus Wirth described the important and indivisible link between algorithms and data structure in his book, Algorithms + Data Structures = Programs.

The course will build on Wirth’s ideas as it helps students improve their knowledge of theory and their ability to think abstractly to solve problems. Building on a solid theoretical foundation, students will analyze problems using data and algorithm abstraction. Students will learn how to organize data efficiently and make tradeoffs between space and time complexity, design efficient and effective algorithms, and implement high quality programs to solve complex real-world problems. After studying this course, students will be well prepared for further study and research in engineering and other computer-related areas.

This is an intermediate-level course appropriate for sophomore students majoring in computer science or other science/engineering disciplines. Students should have learned "introduction to computing", with the knowledge of structured and object-oriented programming.

This course is presented in two eight-week sessions.

Students who score 60% or higher will receive an Honor Code Certificate.

Oddly enough, the contribution of behavioral science to helping people deal with dog behavioral problems and train dogs has only been modest. In this course, we will explore modern approaches to dog behavioral problems and training that incorporate the latest findings from behavioral science.

We will cover the use of behavioral functional analysis to:

• uncover the causes of undesired behavior
• explore just what it is about humans that dogs find reinforcing
• critically evaluate different approaches to dog training
• survey the use of temperament tests to assess the suitability of dogs for different roles
