This two-part job search course guides you on the path to career success. Based on interviews with industry professionals and experienced recruiters, Part 1 helps you create a compelling CV / résumé and job application. Part 2 helps you interview successfully.

This job search course is for both native and non-native speakers of English. Native speakers will learn from industry professionals and recruiters about how to design effective CVs, résumés and cover letters and how to create a compelling online presence. Non-native speakers will also benefit from the English language input that is provided in each week of the course.

Part 1 is followed by Part 2, English at Work in Asia: Preparing for a Job Interview, which covers how to succeed in job interviews so you trump the other candidates.

This introductory writing course will help you develop and express ideas effectively for a variety of purposes, audiences and occasions.

During the course, you will complete several major written projects, along with a reflection for each project. For each project, you can decide what level of technology you wish to use.

If you wish to earn university credit for the course we will ask you to complete a portfolio in which you demonstrate what you have learned. Specifically, you will address what you have learned in the course and provide evidence that you have acquired the skills and knowledge taught during the course. Credit earned will count as ASU’s First-Year Composition course however, it is strongly encouraged that you consult with your institution of choice to determine how these credits will be applied to their degree requirements prior to transferring the credit.

You will gain a foundation for college-level writing valuable for nearly any field. Students will learn how to read carefully, write effective arguments, understand the writing process, engage with others' ideas, cite accurately, and craft powerful prose. We will create a workshop environment.

This course is designed to introduce students to the writing, reading, and thinking skills necessary for success at the college level. Upon completing this course, students will be able to: A. Compose essays demonstrating proficiency in developing and organizing ideas, using language effectively, and writing in standard edited English. B. Find, evaluate, and use sources appropriately. C. Demonstrate continued use and development of effective writing strategies in upper division courses. To achieve these outcomes, students will focus on writing as a recursive process that includes prewriting, drafting, editing, and revising. Emphasis will be placed on personal, reflective, and expository writing. Students will develop critical reading skills and use course readings to analyze specific writing techniques and strategies that can be used to improve their own writing. Students will also identify at least five personal grammatical, mechanical, and stylistic errors that recur in their work and find resources that assist them in resolving these problems. Proposing solutions to local problems requires grounding research in the local context and communicating clear solutions and calls for action that are understandable and relevant to local audiences.

The second is to examine the impact of interculturality and globalization on English communications. By exploring and participating in a business simulation set in Asia, you will develop the principal skills for effective communication in English when conducting business in China and other Asian countries.
