Coursera: Karla Tamayo: setting new career goals with Specializations
Karla Tamayo started teaching five years ago at the Oxford School in Reynosa, Mexico with the goal to become a principal. Her first year was successful and she got promoted to a more visible coordinator role. Looking to develop more skills in order to keep climbing up the ladder, her supervisor introduced her to Coursera. Karla quickly found value and enrolled in the Specialization: Foundations of Teaching for Learning, and also the courses Crafting the Effective Writer and Chinese for Beginners. LinkedIn released a list of the 25 Hottest Skills That Got People Hired in 2014. They analyzed over 330 million LinkedIn profiles and discovered that if you have the listed skills, there is a good chance that you started a new job or received interest from a recruiter in the past year. Coursera: Srikanth Hari: took a Specialization, got a job at Blackberry
After 8 years of working in project management, Srikanth Hari wanted to make the move to software development. But even with an MBA from Berkeley, technology had changed so drastically that he felt behind on relevant industry trends to make an impact. A simple search for building new skills on the web landed him on Coursera. Srikanth immediately enrolled in the Mobile Cloud Computing with Android and Cybersecurity Specializations because of the quality of materials offered and the experience of the professors. After almost 20 years of doing scientific programming, Peter Barker wanted to switch careers into software engineering. Unfortunately, after being on a single track for so long, some of the new technologies were foreign to him and he’d also become rusty in concepts that were taught to him decades ago. Our French course catalog is getting another upgrade. Coursera is adding two new partners, ESSEC Business School and Sciences Po—two of France’s most respected institutions—to bring courses in social sciences and business to learners worldwide. Sciences Po, one of the world’s leading institutions in social sciences, is developing three initial courses: “Espace Mondial,” by Professor Bertrand Badie, “Scientific Humanities” by Professor Bruno Latour and “Cities are Back in Town” by Professor Patrick Le Gales.
