Meet Jalil, a Udacity student who is the first graduate of our new Programming Foundations with Python course. Jalil is a web developer and lifelong learner working in Munich and taking online courses to advance his career! Below, Jalil answers a few questions and shares his story with us: How did you hear about Udacity? I was just finishing high school at a very old-school school in Bavaria, Germany and my frustration with that system and the underlying picture of humanity had reached a point where I thought a lot about education. I was very much into TED talks at the time and when Salman Khan gave his talk on Khan Academy I was on fire. It made so much sense and was totally in line with my belief system that is rooted in the Bahai Faith: “Regard man as a mine rich in gems of inestimable value. Coursera: Coursera works with Turkey's largest mobile provider, Turkcell, to build resources for Turkish Learners
Technology is the greatest enabler in our global society today. It connects us across boundaries and distances, entertains us, provides outlets for creativity and discovery, and opens doors to knowledge that can improve our lives and our communities. Today, we open a new door with help from Turkcell, the largest mobile communications provider in Turkey. We’re delighted to work with them to expand awareness of and access to online learning opportunities in Turkey, a country currently hosting more than 46,000 learners. Our hope is to grow this community through Turkcell’s vast network of subscribers, in a country where mobile connects more than 90% of the population and has become the preferred channel for spreading new knowledge. Through our collaboration with Turkcell and current university partner Koc University, Turkish students can now visit Coursera.org to experience a Turkish User Interface and discover courses subtitled or taught in their native language. Udacity: Secret Messages from Udacity Students
In Udacity’s introductory course on object oriented programming, students work on a mini project called Secret Message. In Secret Message, students learn how functions from the OS module in Python can automate tasks like debugging programs, and practice this technique by writing scrambled secret messages that can be decoded by running a program. The Secret Message forum is full of amazing secret messages that are heartfelt, funny, and inspirational! Here are a few of our favorites (with more on the way)! Coursera: Government of Trinidad and Tobago Works with Coursera to Boost Education and Improve Career Skills Nationwide
Trinidad and Tobago’s national motto is “Together we aspire. Together we achieve.” Education has always been the tool to turn those aspirations into achievements. Coursera: McMaster University Joins Coursera as its Newest Canadian Partner!
Today, we’re excited to welcome McMaster University, a public research university based in Hamilton, Ontario, as our fourth Canadian university partner. McMaster is a member of U15, a group of research-intensive universities in Canada along with the University of Alberta, University of British Columbia and University of Toronto. Professor Kevin Dunn will teach McMaster’s first course on Coursera, Experimentation for Improvement. While Kevin usually focuses on teaching students the foundations of chemical engineering in his on-campus courses, he is also interested in the use of software and innovative techniques for other applications. For decades, it has been largely unchanged, but in less than a year, the MCAT is getting a make-over. The 2015 MCAT will include new content in areas like psychology and sociology, and that means that thousands of students looking to become future physicians will be looking for ways to get ready. One year ago, in order to help students prepare for this important test, Khan Academy partnered up with the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the Association of American Medical Colleges, to put together videos and questions for the MCAT. So far, we have generated 400 videos and 500 passage based questions with about 2 million videos watched and 1 million problems solved over the past few months, and new content being made available each week.
