Coursera: An Easier Way to Find Yourselves in the Forums
Editor’s Note: Coursera’s Lead Student Team Engineer Pamela Fox shares with us a useful new Coursera feature: Forum Activity Profiles! I have to admit something embarrassing that all of our active forum participants know: before this week, the only way to find your posts or the posts of classmates in the forums was to search by name (or to keep a long list of browser bookmarks). We know that you are all really keen to keep up to date with the threads you’re participating in, and to find interesting posts by your classmates, so we’ve rolled out new functionality this week to make that all easier for you. Forum Activity Profiles For every student that participates in the forums, we’ve created a forum profile with their name, link to Coursera profile (if they’ve made one), and a list of their most recent threads, posts, and comments. There’s also an option to browse back further, for those prolific posters. Here’s what the forum prof…

Udemy: Photography Ideas: Easy Projects For A Rainy Weekend
If you’re like most people, when the weather is bad and you’re stuck at home on the weekend you’ll probably find yourself lazing about in front of the TV or computer. You may think there’s nothing interesting that can be photographed at home but if you put a... Continue reading »…
Khan Academy: Free! Art History!
When we started Smarthistory 7 years ago, we thought of it as a replacement for the textbook - mostly for our own students. But along the way, we learned a lot about how we might use the web to think about teaching art history. We opened our classrooms, and opened Smarthistory to art historians, hoping in the process that together we could create a free, open resource for the teaching and learning of our discipline. We learned we could teach… 1) more experientially (why not make videos from audios recorded INSIDE the Arena Chapel or the Contarelli Chapel?) 2) more personally than the impersonal voice of the textbook 3) using lots more images than were ever available to us in the slide library (Flickr!) and tourist videos too (why not show students what’s it like to climb to the top of the Brunelleschi’s dome?) Today, Smarthistory.khanacademy.org has 250 essays and 500 videos (and all our videos and a few text pages are also on khanacademy.org).

Udemy: DJ Tips: 6 Ways to Increase Studio Productivity
Everyone has a unique way of creating his or her tracks. But should you be spending 3 hours tweaking drum sounds and fiddling with minor details? How do you know when to stop tweaking and move on? With a project that contains over 30 tracks, 14 auxs and, in my case, 24 outputs to summing amps and outboard gear, your internal workflow becomes complex to manage. Majority of your studio time can be spent on tasks that don’t produce tangible... Continue reading »…
Udemy: You are what you think, so mind what you
From the moment we wake up, the inner chatter of our mind starts up. It gets a bit quieter when we get fully absorbed with a creative task or mildly hypnotized with a TV programme, film or computer game. Only when we fall asleep, does it go fully silent again perhaps only to bubble below the surface of our awareness in the form of dreams. The rest of the time our mind gets involved with internal commentary about the world... Continue reading »…
