Udacity: Neil: Shelf Stacker to Software Engineer
We love hearing from students who have taken our courses and leap-frogged into their careers in tech. Meet Neil, who sent a wonderful note about his journey from working as a shelf-stacker to recently starting his first job as a software engineer. Neil I've spent the last 6 years working for ASDA (Wal*Mart) in the UK, applying for 4 jobs every week with no avail. I took Udacity’s Intro to Computer Science course early last year. I've always been interested in programming, but never found a course that taught you by doing, and never found that next step. After taking CS101, I programmed some XNA games, and bought Head First C# and Beginning ASP.NET. A month ago, I got my first computer/web programming job without a bachelors degree, earning more than twice what I did at Asda, no weekends, no public holidays. My new job involves web development, with ASP.NET and a bit of front-end work with JQuery. I have an amount of trust from my workplace that I've never even dreamt of…
: WizIQ Support Goes 24X7
At WizIQ, a part of the office is bustling with activity every weekend (a very unlikely scene at a typical workplace). It seems that the folks from the WizIQ Support Team are completely oblivious of the weekend (or so we think).… Read the rest…
Coursera: 3 Helpful Tips for Younger Students on Coursera
Editor’s note: Khadija Niazi is a Courserian living in Pakistan. She and her brother are turning 13 this year and have each completed over 6 courses already. They recently posted about their experience. Now, along with their mom, they are going to share their perspective on MOOCs for young students and families! I believe that I represent everyone who has a passion for education – someone trying to learn under many different circumstances. But I’m also just like any other 13-year-old student you might come across in your daily life. When I started taking courses on Coursera, the only thing that mattered to me was gaining knowledge. Studies were never a burden; I love learning – at school, or even while watching TV. I learned very early on that education doesn’t need to be confined to a classroom, holding a book in your hand. Education is out there, everywhere; all you need to do is go find the right key for the door. That’s why I turned to MOOCs…
Learning Solutions Magazine: The Gamification of Retail Safety and Loss Prevention Training by Karl Kapp
In spite of a robust store-level safety and loss prevention awareness program, employees were not retaining or operationalizing the learning. Read about how they did it.

Udacity: From Reinventing Education to Reinventing Science
Andrés At Udacity, we’re constantly inspired by seeing others work to broaden access to education and information. We want to share a great note from Andrés, a Physics PhD student who writes that Udacity’s “effort to reinvent education is an inspiration for me to try to reinvent science.” He elaborates by sharing thoughts on his journey in opening access to information as a PhD student: The way we do science hasn't changed much in the last 300 years. We live still in a publish or perish paradigm in which almost the only valuable scientific contribution to the world is a published journal article (behind a steep paywall, of course). But there's a wealth of useful information unfit for such publications that we could share, reuse and profit from. While making my own research for my PhD I wanted to have a written record of everything I do, all the ideas (good and bad), discussions, datasets, source code, plots, etc. so I could share them…

Saylor.org: Where we

Udacity: Student Story on Broadening Access to Education
As we get ready for the Udacity Global Meetup on Saturday, July 20th, we’re thrilled to watch the RSVP count grow and we can’t wait to meet more Udacity students as we celebrate community and job readiness! Bill, a Udacity student from Los Angeles, will attend the Los Angeles Global Meetup, and we want to share his note on why he supports Udacity’s mission to broaden access to education. He’ll be helping out at the meetup and we can’t thank him enough for not just his volunteer time but this story he shared -- stories like these keep us inspired by what we’re all building together: 6 weeks ago, I was visiting Stemnitsa, a small village in Greece where my father's side of the family is from (my parents are Greek immigrants to the US). I've been 9 times to Stemnitsa and I absolutely love the place. People visit there during the summer, so the population during the winter is maybe about 100 people. I recently learned that the local high school stud…
